When typing yourself try to look at your whole life. Your type doesn't change and when looking at the past it might reveal things that are hidden now. When you are younger people change more and thus I think that it is even more helpful to look at your whole life to gain clarity.
INFPs and INTPs have a different axis of judgement. INFPs are oriented by there own self and this is lies at the center of there decision making. INTPs try to makes decisions in a way that applies to more people than just themselves. Thus the INTPs decision making process can be used by multiple people while an INFPs decision making process can only be used by themselves.
INFPs and INTPs also deal with very different problems. INFPs deal first and foremost with individual people. INTPs deal with intellectual systems. INFP works on understanding the human heart, INTPs on understanding fine points of theory.
Now having said all the above we can better contextualize the primitive function. INFPs after having spent years understanding a wide range of matters related to humans and there drives and values now want to do something with this knowledge. This is when Te turns on and the struggle really begins.
The struggle is how do you build external system that account for the particular values of the INFP. How do you become a better higher quality person by embodying your values better? How do external systems and a grounded empirical understanding of the world inform or balance my personal sentiments?
INFPs struggle to ignore their values, to be a bad person and do what needs to be done in order for them to get things done. They can also struggle to deal with factual information and build an understanding of the way the external world works. This usually shows up in career, management and understanding the systems underpinning society. Also INFPs struggle to objectify people and treat them like a variable in a formula. This leads to all sorts of problems when it comes to building or understanding external systems.
Now lets come to the INTP, who will spend many years coming to understand the world and build an understanding and model of what is going on. They then want to spread this information and unify a group of people around the truth they have discovered. This requires Fe usage.
Usually INTPs will become jaded as they realize that far more effective than carefully reason arguments are emotional appeals and logical fallacies. As they watch popular figures that have no clue about what they are talking about getting all the attention while when they talk people go to sleep.
Learning about how to be engaging, aware of what people care about and then tailoring what they are saying to there audience is something that INTPs really struggle with.
They also struggle with talking to people at there level and simplifying there life work in such a way that someone with no background can follow them.
